The EA, GRE and GMAT are tests that one can pass in order to be accepted for an EMBA. Each test is slightly different. However, at the end, the one that will be best for you depend on your preferences and previous skills.
The Executive Assessment is a test taken by people with at least eight years of full-time work experience in order to evaluate your business school readiness based on your previous work experiences. It mainly evaluates data-driven skills such as Quantitative Reasoning, Integrated Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning. Based on the results that you get from the first assignment of this test, the following questions will be harder or easier.
The Graduate Management Admission was first created as a test to test your business skills in order to enter an EMBA program. Nowadays, it is a computer-adaptive test where each question that you answer to will determine the level of difficulty for the next one. As such, the better you answer, the harder the questions will be. This test focuses on analytical skills as well as analytical writing, verbal sections and quantitative skills.
The Graduate Record Examination is a test that will evaluate the skills you need to be able to enter graduate programs in law or business. This test is mainly composed of quantitative problems and a verbal section that is focused on vocabulary. It also displays sections about critical thinking and analytical writing. It is a computer-based exam.
Preparation time : it takes less time to be prepared for the Executive Assessment than the Graduate Management Admission Test. The EA is generally shorter and easier to pass.
Content : the content for both of these tests are almost identical. They are both computer-adaptive tests where questions will get easier or harder depending on the fact that you are correctly answering or not. However, for the EA, the difficulty will change after a block of questions while for the GMAT, it will change after each question. As for the content itself, the EA presents no geometry exercises compared to the GMAT.
Length : It takes 180 minutes to complete the GMAT whereas you will just need 90 minutes to fulfill the EA exam. This difference can be explain by the fact that the time allowed to answer question in the EA is significantly shorter than the GMAT. Moreover, the EA doesn’t have the Analytical Writing Assessment section. Generally speaking, the EA is more focus on skills that are considered as the most important for the EMBA classroom.
These two tests present the same amount and types of sections. However, there are slight differences that can be spotted.
Verbal difficulty : The GRE is said to be harder regarding the verbal section because of the fact that this test is more focus on the vocabulary whereas the GMAT focuses on grammar.
Integrated reasoning : The GMAT presents one section on integrated reasoning coupled with one essay whereas the GRE will ask for two essays. Depending on your skills you will prefer one instead of the other.
Quantitative difficulty : Regarding this section, the math in the GMAT looks slightly harder than the GRE. Moreover, in the GMAT you are not allowed to use a calculator.
